50 Essential Questions at Grades D to B

• For each topic there are two sets of similar questions: T questions and S questions.

• All questions are written so that they can be answered without a calculator.

• Questions are in a random order, just as they are in an exam.

• Questions are all at grades D, C and B and clearly marked in each case.

Three versions are available to download (click on each versions to launch):

Version 1: questions only.

Version 2: questions with answers for just the T questions.

The Password for 50 Essential Questions is the first

four characters of the password for the worksheets.

Some Suggestions for Use

Using Version 2 in the classroom:

• The teacher shows how to get the answers to qu 1T.

• The students then do 1S.

• The teacher goes over 2T.

• The students do 2S etc.

All 50 Essential Questions are designed to be revised and completed in class

in 5 to 6 hours. An interactive whiteboard is a very efficient way to go through

the questions.

Using Version 2:

• Print out and give some of the questions for homework.

• Students can look at the answers to the T questions to help them

understand how to do the questions. Any problem areas can be revised

  using the suggested Mathswatch clip.

• Students then complete the assigned S questions for handing in.

Using Version 3:

• Print and make booklets out of the 26 pages (or place on VLE).

• Give to students as revision work.

• Students fold the sheets so that the answers are hidden.

• As they do the questions they check their answers. Any problems can be

addressed by looking at the appropriate Mathswatch clip.
